Frequently Asked Questions

Simple projects like tote bags, pillow covers, and basic skirts are great for building skills without complicated techniques.

Key terms include seam allowance (space from stitch to fabric edge), bias (diagonal fabric line), and basting (temporary long stitches).

Use a seam ripper to remove stitches and try again. Mistakes are part of learning, so don’t be discouraged.

Clean your machine after every major project or every 8–10 hours of use. Follow the manual for removing lint and dust around the bobbin case and needle area.

Needles often break when they’re the wrong size for the fabric, if you pull the fabric while sewing, or if there’s an obstruction in the throat plate. Use the correct needle size, avoid pulling fabric, and check for any obstructions.

Practice on fabric scraps, or use inexpensive muslin fabric to improve your skills. You can also practice stitching on paper, using different lines and shapes to build accuracy and control.
